THE HUMAN BODY

LEARNING GOAL:

We are learning to identify and understand the various parts and functions of the diverse systems of the human body.

The human body is a complex machine that has many body systems that work together to keep us alive and allow us to function. Each body system has a job to do. Inside a body system are organs, which also each have a specific job in our bodies.

  • Lungs

  • Trachea

  • Bronchi

  • Diaphragm

THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The circulatory system is in charge of pumping our blood throughout our bodies. It brings oxygen-rich blood to all out of our organs.

The main parts of the circulatory system are:

  • Heart

  • Blood vessels (veins and arteries)

THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

The immune system is in charge of protecting our body from invaders like germs and bacteria, and fighting off disease.

The main parts of the immune system are:

  • Skin

  • White blood cells (neutrophils, macrophages, B cells, and Killer T cells)

The nervous system is in charge of controlling all of the functions of your body, as well as helping you think and make decisions.

The main parts of the nervous system are:

  • Brain

  • Spinal cord

  • Nerves

THE MUSCLE AND SKELETAL SYSTEM

The muscular and skeletal systems work hand-in-hand to help us move and keep balanced, as well as help our organs function and protect them from harm.

The main parts of the muscular and skeletal system are:

  • Smooth muscles

  • Cardiac muscles

  • Skeletal muscles

  • Bones

  • Tendons
